Hi! I’m Katarina, a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying). My path into psychotherapy began with my own mental health struggles as a teenager. I remember what it felt like to be overwhelmed, lost and hopeless, and to wonder whether anyone truly understood what I was going through. Those experiences shaped who I am and are a big part of why I chose to become a therapist.
I do this work because I don’t want anyone to feel like they have to navigate the hardest parts of life alone. I genuinely want to help people feel understood, find their footing and begin to believe that things can change, even when they can’t feel that hope for themselves yet.
I created Heart of Oak Psychotherapy because I wanted therapy to feel different from the cold, clinical experience many people imagine. I believe therapy can be deeply meaningful while still feeling natural, comfortable and human. We can laugh together, cry together and make room for everything in between.
You don’t need to perform, have the perfect words or present a polished version of yourself. You can come exactly as you are, and we’ll figure out the next step together.

Working with me is warm, collaborative, nonjudgmental and very human.
Therapy can be hard, but I also believe it can be fun. We can laugh together, cry together and make room for all the emotions in between. Some sessions may feel deep and vulnerable, while others may include humour, celebration or moments of realizing just how far you’ve come.
I bring my actual personality into the therapy room because I want you to feel like you’re talking to a real person, someone who genuinely cares about you and wants to help. There is very little you could say that would shock me, and you never need to worry about being judged for your thoughts, feelings, experiences or coping strategies.
Feeling heard matters, but I also want therapy to help you move forward. I’ll help you explore what is happening beneath the surface, understand where certain patterns may have come from and develop practical ways to respond differently. I’ll ask thoughtful questions, share observations, teach you skills and gently challenge you when I believe it could support your growth.
Some sessions may involve unpacking earlier experiences and getting to the root of a pattern. Others may focus on managing what happened that week, practising a new skill, preparing for a difficult conversation or simply having a safe place to fall apart for a moment.
You don’t have to do this alone. When you feel lost, we can work together to find a direction. When you feel hopeless, I can hold some of that hope for you until you’re ready to hold it for yourself.

I don’t expect you to know which approach you need. I draw from different modalities based on your concerns, preferences, goals and what feels most helpful to you.
